Office Speak and Office Jargon

The BBC website has a couple of amusing pages at the moment about our favourite (or least favourite) examples of absurd office jargon such as "blue sky thinking", "going forward" and "low hanging fruit"!

Furnished Offices

The great thing about a serviced office is that they usually come fully furnished, which is a real bonus. In my last conventional office space, when I turned up there was some ropey old furniture that the last tenant had left. I wondered why they hadn't taken it, but couldn't use it myself as it wasn't up to scratch. So I bought all new office furniture which I used for a year.

When I went to leave, i realised why the previous occupant had left their's. It's actually a real hassle having to get large pieces of furniture removed and transported. I fell into the same trap as the previous occupant - buying new furniture and then leaving it behind.

By opting for a furnished, serviced office, you can avoid this wasteful state of affairs. Business centres will suually have a great stock of office furniture that suits the character of the building. Book a viewing today and check the quality why you are there.

Save money on broadband at the office

Previously, when taking serviced office space, if you wanted internet access you really had to use whatever service the business centre was supplying. The management have access to the backroom infrastructure and they arrange for the internet access to be plumbed into your office. All very convenient but as in field of business, if there's only one provider available, the prices aren't competitive.

But thanks to mobile broadband solutions, you no longer need to rely on the wired service provided by your ISP. Get yourself an internet dongle and you have broadband in the office, and then you can take it home and have broadband there too. It usually works out a lot cheaper than what you might be offered at serviced offices, so it's the smart way to organise your internet access.

How does it work? You simply plug the USB dongle in and it connects up to the networks 3g network and ... that's it. You're flying with highspeed internet access. There are loads of deals, with both pay as you go mobile broadband, and other conventional, fixed length mobile broadband deals available.

The city of Portsmouth in Hampshire on England's south coast has an impressive and famous naval history. Home to HMS Victory, and what's left of the Mary Rose, this 450,000 strong city will surely always be synonymous with the British navy.

But scratch the maritime surface and you see something else going on - a regeneration of Portsmouth which is giving the Pompey people a new confidence. The Spinnaker Tower was recently completed and gives stunning views from his peak, 170 metres in the sky. Other new developments are being completed all the time, and of course there's a still a glow to the locals who this year celebrated an FA Cup victory.

Portsmouth makes an idea base for many businesses and has a range of serviced offices to meet their office requirements on flexible, attractive terms. Serviced office facilities exist in Kingston Crescent, Western Road, and just outside the city in Gosport and Fareham.

Office Water Coolers

Many serviced office facilities will have a breakout room where there might be a drinks machine or snack dispenser. One of the other things it will probably have is a water cooler, which is really essential in the modern computer filled offices for keeping workers adequately hydrated. Getting up from the computer to go and get a glass of water is one of the best ways to avoid headaches associated with working at computer terminals.

If your office centre doesn't have a water cooler for communal use, or you just want one for your own staff maybe because you have a large office, then you should check out Water Coolers Direct where the water and the prices are very cool.

Serviced Offices in Dartford

Dartford in North Kent is undergoing a transformation before our very eyes. For years, it was a town which seemed to be moving backwards, or at the very least, struggling to keep up with the pace of change around it. But something interesting is happening here in Dartford, and there's a fresh bounce in its step.

All round the place, progress is visible and tangible change is occuring. Impressive retail brands are taking up residence at the outskirts of the town centre, and of course the presence of a Waitrose by the Orchard Shopping Centre gives a sense of a town that is going up market.

Once the town might have been threatened by the nearby Bluewater Shopping Centre but now it embraces it with a priority bus service providing services between Gravesend and Dartford, stopping at Bluewater and the impressive new Ebbsfleet International Station.

For business owners seeking serviced office space in Dartford, there's a good choice. In the town centre itself is the Crown House Business Center which provides attractive office space for all manner of businesses. The facility is just a very short walk from the National Rail station, and its attractive atrium is the highlight of the communal space, creating a good place to network or receive visitors.

Slightly out of the town and towards the Dartford river crossing is the Regus Business Centre. Regus is the leading name in global office space and this centre reflects the brand quality well and is fizzing with modernity and business energy.
